Can I bind and transmitter to a RTF drone?

Sorry for the newbie post. I'm curious if when I'm ready to start moving up if I can still use my RTF drone with a universal (?) Transmitter, or if there is a hardware difference in the drone.Drone in question is a blade nano and ran me all of about 30$ so does this really matter? No not at all. I'm a junkie for tinkering and upgrades so things like this will matter to me.Also how does it work with something like a DJI phantom or some other high end drone?
