I recently had a go on a mavic pro platinum and thought it was brilliant, I'm not into my photography or film making but like the idea of using a drone to explore places and to take some cool snaps. As a latecomer to drones I was pretty blown away by the mavic platinum but have seen there are newer offerings from DJI like the air and mavic 2.I don't necessarily need the latest and greatest technology and am not too keen on spending £1000+ on the latest model but I'd like a good bit of kit. The options I'm considering are:Buy a used but good condition Mavic pro. Can get a good condition platinum with fly more package on eBay for around £400. Extra batteries are reasonably priced and it will probably do for what I want and put a smile on my face for little outlay. My concerns are that I don't know the history of these drones so could get one that's had a tough life, it's older hardware and I'd be worried about the shelf life of components used (I.e. would it be likely to 'wear out' in the short Term?)Buy a used or refurbed Mavic air. Will be looking at around £450 for a used one and £550 for a refurbed one with 3 month warranty. Batteries seem to be cheap going for around £50ish. Again lower price point and a better camera than the mavic pro. Seems ideal at first but reduced range and short flight time puts me off. It may be that the YouTube reviews I've seen exaggerate that the real world 12 to 15mins flight time is awful.. again I'm new to drones but this does seem short. If the flight time was a bit longer I'd probably pull the trigger today.Final option is a refurbed Mavic 2 zoom. Can get one with a 3 month warranty for £850. Will only come with one battery and extra batteries are £109 a piece. If I went down this route I'd likely have to run it with a single battery for the time being a get an extra further down the line. Flight time and range is obviously the best of all 3.For those that have owned some of the above drones what do you think? Is the original pro too long in the tooth and destined to have issued if bought Used? Is the airs battery life and range something that really bugs You? Is the zoom worth double the price of the mavic pro to a newbie who just so wants a drone for fun? via /r/drones http://bit.ly/2ZE7nBm
