DJI Tello with GameSir Controller - Instructions on Getting them Working

The documentation for drones and controllers isn't always the best. I think they figure that someone who uses drones has the ability to figure things out by themselves. I'm not always great at figuring it out but having struggled through and researched online, I thought that I would post some brief instructions for someone who might benefit:Note: I got the GameSir Controller for the Tello drone because it was mentioned on Amazon. I have seen from YouTube that other controllers also work but the instructions below are for the GameSir controller that I used. The DJI Tello app should be installed on the Android/Apple smartphone/tablet first.  Before starting: have all three of phone/tablet, Tello drone and GameSir controller fully or mostly charged.Overview: Your phone/tablet needs to connect to both the Tello drone (via Wifi) and the GameSir Controller (via bluetooth).  So the phone/tablet acts as the middleman.  Certain things (takeoff, landing, special features, visual from drone camera) are controlled/seen on the phone/tablet while movement is controlled by the GameSir Controller using its joysticks. Press the power button to start the Tello droneOn the phone/tablet, go into connections, Wifi, find Tello and pick it to connect to the Tello Drone (yes, this drops your phone/tablet connection to your regular Wifi network in the process)Start the Tello app on the phone/tablet.Power on the GameSir ControllerGo into settings (gear crank) on the Tello App, choose Bluetooth and connect to GameSir ControllerNow you are ready to fly with movement control delegated to the controller.Basics of control:From the phone/tablet, at the top-left, there is a small takeoff-landing icon.  Tap that and then it asks you to slide to confirm takeoff.  The drone starts and raises itself about 1m (1 meter ~ 3 feet). There are two joysticks:  Left stick: increase height/decrease height, rotate clockwise, rotate counterclockwise.   Right stick: go forward, go back, go left, go right.  Forward is the direction of the drone camera so you might want to rotate the drone to point in the desired direction using the left joystick so that the right joystick behaves in a way that makes sense to you.For landing, tap the same icon on the top left of your phone/tablet.  It gives two options: land itself on the ground or land onto your hand.  Once you pick one, you press Confirm and it lands itself. There are a few fancy features under settings like throw for takeoff and others that you can try once the basic operations are understood.Limitations: the Tello drone is supposed to fly at a height between 1m and 10m.   Also, it doesn't like strong winds or rain or snow.  via /r/drones https://ift.tt/2KCY7ca
