TL;DR; bent pin did me inThis is mostly just so I can commiserate with someone that understands. This is my first ever drone build. I went through all kinds of trouble getting each individual component to work. The first problem was the camera. Turns out that one of the crimps on the + line to the camera was done poorly in the factory and was intermittent. This caused me to try a bunch of different configurations for the VTX and camera trying to debug and I moved to fast and accidentally plugged the + and - backwards on my breadboard frying my VTX (not the magic smoke in the Title). I ordered another, figured out the power problem for the camera. Bing bang boom, on to the flight controller.First of all, I got a F4 clone off of banggood with very poor documentation that apparently no one in the world had used and I had never done this before, so it was quite an ordeal just figuring out where to solder the 4 in 1 ESC, how the get the correct motor turning the correct direction etc. That was about a week of failure punctuated by moments of mild success, but I eventually got all of that nonsense squared away.Next came the receiver.... The first problem was that I didn't know that you were supposed to solder the jumper pads to select voltage/signal type. That was 2 days right there believing that I had a DOA R-XSR. Then I could not get any signal on the SBUS line. I in fact never got any signal on the SBUS line even though I was getting good Telemetry on the Smart port wire. I eventually ended up flashing the Receiver with the new FPort firmware and running both signals on the SmartPort line because I knew it was working. Then the motors I had would't fit on the 3D Printed frame I had made, so I had to whittle the motor mounts until the included screws were long enough to reach the motor.Then... at the end of this crazy gauntlet as I'm finally assembling my baby for to get ready for real deal PID tuning and a hover test, I plug in my battery to double check the motors are arranged correctly on the frame and are spinning the right direction and BAM....White smoke from the main chip of the FC. I had plugged in that battery dozens of times with this exact electrical setup with no issues and mere hours before the maiden flight it dies on me.Turns out the Ground pin in the 4in1 ESC connector had gotten bent sideways and contacted one of the other pins. I don't even feel like that one was my fault...Anyway.. I'm in the market for a 30x30 FC. Any suggestions? via /r/drones https://ift.tt/2li69fP
