I've had the mini for shy of 2 weeks now, and have had it out 5 times. This is my first drone. Locations vary from a tennis court, to a back street, to a school yard, to my parents farm on the outskirts of a small town. The drone in itself has exceeded my expectations. But I've had a couple issues that have me concerned, and aren't allowing me to do what I want with the drone. I am having issues with range and video feed. At about 900-1000 feet and 100 feet high, I constantly have connection issues, and freezing of the camera feed. I am not confident at all flying past 800 feet, and as such am not confident flying over trees, or around obstacles. DJI claims the mini has a range of 4km, yet I am having trouble flying past a third of a km.Locations vary from being surrounded by wifi, to the nearest wifi being over 1000 feet away (in the opposite direction that I am flying). I consistently am connected to 12 or more satellites. I also put my phone into airplane mode. I always face the drone, and adjust the antennas so the flats are pointing directly at the mini. The only thing I can figure, is there is a steel barn within 500 feet at my parents, and I haven't looked into 2.4 vs 5 ghz connections. I've tested the altitude directly over head, and I have no issues at 400' high. Are these just limitations of a drone operating on wifi? Or am I doing something wrong? I understand you're supposed to keep a line of sight, but when I am out in the boonies I'd love to get shots over trees and hard to reach places. I'd also like the confidence to fly over rivers and the shores of lakes. I am within the return time and am contemplating returning it and grabbing a used mavic pro, or an air 2. I am having a hard time justifying $1400 CAD for a drone with capabilities I don't need yet, and as a beginner flier learning with a basic drone seems smarter.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If it wasn't for the connection issues, I'd call the mavic mini a perfect starter drone. via /r/drones https://ift.tt/2YMASCE
